Who am I?

I have been a nurse for over 29 years, and I have seen many things in that time. When I was in school, we were taught how to time our IV drips using our wristwatches, as we were told that not every hospital used IV pumps. We used time tapes on the bags so we knew when they would run out. There was a rumor going around that one day, we would use a computer to do our charting. Nursing trends have come and gone, but old nurses live on.

I am a former critical care nurse who has gotten around. With experience in the cardiac cath lab, interventional radiology, pediatric and adult ICU, emergency room, and med-surg, I can do almost any type of nursing except neonates. I can help resuscitate them, but I do not like to take care of any newborns except my own. I have been a mentor for nurses moving from med-surg into the ICU, trying to bring up the next generation of critical care nurses. I do have team leader experience for a diverse team that includes family practice, basic urology, behavioral health, and family planning. Now, I'm house coordinator for a small critical access hospital on the night shift. If it happens at night, I'm your girl!

This portfolio will present you with a picture of me as a nurse. It has my current resume, copies of things I have done in graduate school that I am proud of, and eventually will have my practicum portfolio on it. Bear with me as this grows as I gather knowledge and put it to use.
